Practicing

Individual daily practice is necessary for percussionist for multiple reasons! All private students and members of ensembles I teach are expected to establish daily practice.
  • Physical Needs - "Chop building" and mastering techniques require muscular repetition.
  • Mental Needs - Improving reading skills, retain knowledge, and perfecting musical phrasing.

Spending a few minutes (15-30) each day is more beneficial than spending an hour once or twice a week. Make a time each day where you will practice so that you establish a routine.

Success Stories

Justin Giles - After taking no longer than a year from instructor Will Champion, Justin has done exceedingly well. He has auditioned and been placed in the Charlotte Youth Wind Ensemble (a program out of UNC-Charlotte), has made first chair in the Mallet Percussion audition for the NC All-District Band, and is on the marimba line for South Meck Indoor Percussion.
